Art
We LOVE Art in Class K!
Throughout the year, the children we will be encouraged to develop their critical and creative thinking skills and build knowledge and understanding of materials and techniques. They will develop an awareness of colour, shape, texture, line and shade, alongside the broad themes of drawing, painting, collage, printing, 3D work and textiles. We will study a variety of artists, designers and craftspeople so we can learn from the way they see the world. In addition to this, we will be creating our sketchbooks and developing our own ideas, refining skills and techniques and recording ideas. Children will be given the opportunity to evaluate their own work and see their art work on display in their classroom.
Our topics this year are:
Unit 1: Gestural drawing with charcoal
Unit 2: Cloth, thread and paint
Unit 3: Using natural materials to make images.
This term, we have really enjoyed using the charcoal, chalk and pastels to make our very own cave paintings. We even used our cave paintings to decorate the classroom on Stone Age day.
In our sketch books we have practised smudging the charcoal, rubbing the charcoal and blending the charcoal with white chalk. We also used the charcoal to draw some large objects on our table.
